Freelance Packaging Designer (Part-Time)

Location: Remote (must be commutable to Charlotte, NC for periodic press checks)

Compensation Range: $40-$50/HR

Cella is seeking a Freelance Packaging Designer to join the creative team of a premier, historic leader in the spirits and beverage industry. This is a unique, part-time freelance opportunity with an estimated 10 hours per week to start. This role may grow in scope/hours over time. The ideal candidate will possess CPG or industry-related experience. 
 
Responsibilities:

• Design primary packaging labels for a diverse portfolio of spirit brands, special releases, and visitor center exclusives.
• Develop layouts for secondary packaging, including decorative boxes, gift sets, and value-added packs that contain glassware or other merchandise.
• Translate creative briefs, brand guides, and templates into world-class, compliant, print-ready assets across diverse structural packaging systems.
• Prepare design files for TTB government approval, ensuring all JPEGs and technical layouts adhere to regulatory requirements.
• Design and layout artwork for shippers and corrugated boxes used for transport and in-store retail merchandising.
• Select and specify technical finishes including foils, embossing, and tactile textures to elevate the brand aesthetic.
• Collaborate with production partners to ensure all design concepts are technically feasible for large scale manufacturing.
• Collaborate with in-house creative team and brand teams to ensure all work aligns with core brand equities and strategy.
• Coordinate with external printers to maintain design integrity during production, through remote or on-site press approvals and line validations.
• Maintain high standards of quality and timeliness while managing multiple concurrent projects (both unplanned and proactive).

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of proven brand and packaging design experience, ideally within the spirits, beverage, or CPG industry.
• Portfolio with packaging examples and the ability to explain your role in their design and production.
• Deep technical knowledge of production processes including prepress, color management, and various substrate finishes such as metallic foils, multi-level embossing, and applied ceramic labeling on glass.
• Deep understanding of regulatory standards for spirits packaging and the preparation of art for government compliance review.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct issues related to typography, layout, and dieline precision.
• Proven ability to be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to handle both high-profile national brands and small-scale boutique releases.
• Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative spirit for working with internal teams, external printers, and agency partners.
